Our skin is amazing!

I would love to know what you think about your skin. Do you ever consider it? Spend time thinking about it? Or is it only when we notice a mark or flaw of some kind that we take note? Maybe that’s the way it should be. I don’t know to be honest.

What I do know is that our skin is THE most amazing material.

❤️ It’s the largest organ in our body and performs specialised jobs no other part of our body is able to

❤️ Your skin covers an area approximately 2 square metres

❤️ It renews itself every 28 days – it constantly sheds dead cells – around 30,000 to 40,000 every minute!

❤️ It is home to more than 1,000 types of bacteria – so important to good skin health and whole-body health

❤️ It’s a super-absorber. The most efficient way your body can absorb and synthesize Vitamin D is through the skin.

❤️ It controls heat regulation

❤️ It is responsible for keeping our internal organs, muscles and bones protected

❤️ 11 miles of blood vessels run throughout the skin to provide oxygen and blood to the skin cells

❤️ Every inch of skin has its own stretchiness and strength designed especially for its position. So, the skin that you see on your belly is very different in strength and elasticity compared to skin that you see on your knuckles

❤️ ALL this and at its thickest your skin is 1.4mm thick on the soles of your feet and at its thinnest 0.02mm on your eyelids.

How amazing is that?!  It’s a bit of an unsung hero of our body really.
